The WWE is in a very stale place right now. The storylines are predictable to anyone over age 13. The same people are always on the shows and it feels like no new stars are being developed. There are whole divisions in the company that are not even being addressed by creative and the company. It has been years since a powerful group or faction has emerged and there have been no real OMG moments besides what CM Punk did on the 1000th episode of Monday Night Raw. Before people begin to decide to tune out or tune into Impact (TNA) Wrestling here are 15 things that can be done to improve the product. I will be revealing the list from 15 to 1 over the coming months.
12. Re Activate the Cruiserweight and Hardcore or Television Championships
Building on the Brand Separation, Revised PPV structure and using classic terms to describe the product and talent the next item to be rectified is the return of 2 divisions to WWE that were integral to the Attitude Era: The Cruiserweight and Hardcore or Television Title Divisions. It’s important to have enough belts to keep fans involved and keep midcard wrestlers on TV in meaningful storylines. Do you remember when Kurt Angle’s career took off when he was the Euro-Continental Champion??? That type of push wouldn’t happen in today’s WWE. It can’t happen if there are not enough belts.
The Cruiserweight or Light Heavyweight Championship was the perfect way to have the smaller Wrestlers’ showcased and were very exciting matches. When you have a clear division for the Cruiserweights then their matches against each other can be more high flying and innovative. Also when you have guys like Cody Rhodes, Christian, Rey Mysterio, Sin Cara, Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel doing nothing why not give them a belt to compete over and bring back a huge missing piece of the best days of the WWE?
The Hardcore/ECW Championship would agreeably be the harder of the suggestions to re activate due to the nature of the division and the PG era being in full effect now. What would be a great way to bring this division back would be to have it featured on the Extreme Rules PPV. It would be the Main Event match every year and could be contested under a hardcore stipulation or just as an Extreme Rules match. This could be the belt that any Wrestler could compete for and could allow the U S and I C Championships to hold a little more prestige in that they could be held by high Mid-Card to Low Main Event Stars as well as in storylines between factions.
The TV Championship would probably be the more realistic option because it would actually give younger stars and underutilized talent more TV exposure. To bring the TV Championship back would be simple just have a tournament of all the Mid Card and lower Wrestlers and even NXT guys and the winner would be crowned the first TV Champion. The belt would be available to be defended on WWE television shows Smackdown, Raw, Main Event and Saturday Morning Slam only. The Champion would be able to have challengers on both shows and follow the logic of being the lower belt but still being a Championship. What are your thoughts??
