The WWE is in a very stale place right now. The storylines are predictable to anyone over age 13. The same people are always on the shows and it feels like no new stars are being developed. There are whole divisions in the company that are not even being addressed by creative and the company. It has been years since a powerful group or faction has emerged and there have been no real OMG moments besides what CM Punk did on the 1000th episode of Monday Night Raw. Before people begin to decide to tune out or tune into Impact (TNA) Wrestling here are 15 things that can be done to improve the product. I will be revealing the list from 15 to 1 over the coming months
11. The Divas Division and the Divas/Womens Championship
The Divas Division is in the worst that I have ever seen it. They are not featured in any strorylines at all and the title is more worthless than the European Championship. It needs to be replaced with the Women’s Championship since it has history in the company. There needs to be more real female wrestlers in the division who can tell a story in the ring while looking sexy doing it. Wrestling is geared primarily to men so the women need to not only look good in their wrestling gear but be able to hold our interest by being compelling and relevant. WWE needs to send all the Divas who can’t perform in the ring and on the microphone to NXT for double duty to hone their craft.
The division needs Natalya, Beth Phoenix, Eve, Layla, Tamina, Naomi, and Kaitlyn to spearhead the rebirth. They need to be involved in storylines and feuds to further their characters. There needs to be former Women’s Wrestlers brought in to be agents for them and teach them how to develop a character and connect with the audience. There needs to be a clear authority figure with no need to have the Women’s Championship. As for Rosa Mendes, Aksana, Alicia Fox and Cameron, they need to be Valets/Managers while they work on their in-ring abilities with mid or upper card groups or singles Wrestlers.
To fully legitimize the division WWE needs to bring in a few independent women to solidify the roster immediately. The division needs to be featured on Raw, Smackdown and Main Event. To jumpstart change we need Vince or HHH to come out and talk about how the Women’s division has been overlooked by both GM’s and he realizes they need their own Authority figure to focus on them only and make matches, sign new talent and bring some structure to the division. They could have a former Diva like Trish Stratus, Lita, or Chyna or a current one like Vickie Guerrero or Lillian Garcia. If she is interested Stephanie could be that person as well. Their first act can be to re activate the Women’s Championship through a single elimination tournament to take place over the next 2 months with the finals being at the Raw before the PPV that month.
Since there are not enough current Divas for this tournament there will need to be more female wrestlers brought in and the NXT women can also be included. The winner would face Eve to crown the new champion at the PPV. Rivalries can be started throughout the tournament by old school methods like having two women who look like sure winners fight to a count out and both be eliminated or a huge upset win for a face Diva where the heel Diva gets upset and costs her the next tournament match or 2 friends have to fight and the winner gets betrayed by her friend for winning the match. Let the rivalries play out through promos, backstage interviews, run-ins and backstage attacks.
There are many things that need to be done to fix the Divas division such as being featured in prominent time slots on the shows and PPV’s , tie in storylines through regular and mixed tag matches, and even real life situations that cause drama between females playing out before our eyes. That element could also draw in more females to watch the product being it is brand new every week. These are things that would help to start the process of improving the Divas division. This would be a long process and would require a lot of time and effort but I feel it would add a lot to the overall product in the end. Leave your thoughts on this below.
