Proehlific Park hires new baseball directors to lead the program in a new direction

Greensboro, N.C.—The beginning of December has marked a busy month for Proehlific Park with flag football, basketball, and indoor soccer leagues starting, all while looking ahead to the spring baseball season that is right around the corner. Proehlific Park is excited to announce the beginning of a new direction of the P.O.W.E.R. baseball program with the hiring of baseball directors Joey Hammond and Jeff Wilson. “I am excited to have both Joey and Jeff join our team at Proehlific, and am pleased with the direction they are taking our baseball program with the emphasis on skill development,” said Proehl. Combined the two coaches have over 20 years of professional baseball experience, and are able to bring a wealth of knowledge and understanding of every aspect of the game of baseball to Proehlific Park.

“Our goal for the Proehlific Park baseball program is centered on developing each and every player that steps through the door to participate in the baseball program. We want to develop each player to the best of their ability by developing not only their baseball skills with lessons and drills, but also their baseball IQ. We want to prepare them for life’s challenges by creating an environment where they can be transformed from boys to men both on the field and off,” says Wilson. Both Hammond and Wilson center their approach to the game on the fundamentals of development. They plan on creating a program where the 7 year olds are learning the same basic fundamentals that the 17 year olds are using each time they step onto the field. Coaches for each team will be taught how to develop each player, and both directors will attend practices to make ensure that coaches are following through with their player’s development.

Hammond attended UNC-Charlotte, and was drafted in the 25th round by the Baltimore Orioles. He spent eight years with the Orioles organization mostly at the AA and AAA levels. He then signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Phillies where he played for three years, and again played at the AA and AAA levels. Wilson attended Elon University, and was drafted in the 29th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was with the Diamondbacks for three years, the Orioles for five years and played one year with Philadelphia spending most of his time in AA and AAA levels. Currently, Hammond and Wilson are coaches at Westchester Country Day School in High Point where Hammond is the head coach and Wilson is the pitching coach.

Proehlific Park will be announcing baseball try-outs for the spring P.O.W.E.R. baseball teams in the coming weeks. Hammond and Wilson will be hosting a Winter Baseball Camp on Wednesday, December 29th from 1:00-4:00pm at Proehlific Park for ages 7-14.
