GREENSBORO, N.C. –Two-time Wyndham winner Davis Love III, Angel Cabrera and Justin Leonard, all major championship winners, have joined the Wyndham Championship field, it was announced today.  The 72nd annual Wyndham Championship presented by BB&T is set for Aug, 15-21 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. 

These players join a field that already includes world No. 16 Paul Casey, world No. 18 Kyung-Tae Kim, 2009 U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover, Webb Simpson, Bill Haas, world No. 19 David Toms, 2008 champion Carl Pettersson, three-time major winner Vijay Singh, 2007 champion Brandt Snedeker, Charles Howell III, two-time Wyndham winner Rocco Mediate, Boo Weekley, Stuart Appleby, John Daly, Kyle Stanley and defending champion Arjun Atwal. 

Love, who won the Piedmont Triad’s PGA TOUR event in 1992 and 2006, will be making his 17th appearance at the Wyndham.  He is second on the tournament’s all-time earnings list with $1, 314,536.  The 2012 United States Ryder Cup captain has made 10 cuts in 16 tournaments this year and has a runner-up among three top-10 finishes in 2011. He has 20 PGA TOUR wins including the 1997 PGA Championship.

Cabrera will be making his first Wyndham Championship appearance.  The golfer from Argentina won the Masters in 2009 and finished seventh there this year.  Cabrera also won the 2007 U.S. Open; both of his two PGA TOUR wins are major championships.  He has 17 international wins.

Leonard is making his third Wyndham appearance; one year ago, he was one of several golfers tied for the lead late in the final round but faded late to finish tied for third in his best finish here.  He has never finished lower than 16th at the Wyndham Championship.  He has 12 PGA TOUR wins including the 1997 British Open Championship.

(Aug. 8, 2011) – For the second consecutive year, the Wyndham Championship is partnering with the Kevin Harvick Foundation for its Pro-Am event on Monday, Aug. 15, it was announced today. The event will kick-off the 72nd annual Wyndham Championship presented by BB&T, set for Aug. 15 – 21 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. Kevin Harvick, a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver and Kevin Harvick Foundation co-founder, will join PGA TOUR professionals and other amateur golfers in filling four-person teams to compete in the second-annual Kevin Harvick Foundation pro-am presented by Technology Concepts & Design. In keeping with the Kevin Harvick Foundation mission statement to positively affect the lives of children, several hundred local youth will attend the event as special guests of the Kevin Harvick Foundation and its partners. In addition to the Monday pro-am, the Kevin Harvick Foundation will host an expo tent for the entire week of the tournament. The No. 29 Budweiser Chevrolet show car, a replica of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series car Harvick drives, will be on display for the Kevin Harvick Foundation Pro-Am. In the foundation expo for the remainder of the week, the No. 33 Chevrolet show car which Harvick drives in the NASCAR Nationwide Series will be featured with a special Wyndham Championship paint scheme. At the expo, fans will have access to information about Foundation programs and upcoming events, plus a chance to win autographed racing memorabilia. The Kevin Harvick Foundation is also one of some 50 local and national charitable organizations that will have chance to win $100,000 from Wishes by Wyndham, the philanthropic foundation of Wyndham Worldwide. During the four official rounds of PGA TOUR play, Thursday, Aug. 17 through Sunday, Aug. 21, tournament patrons will have the opportunity to vote at computer kiosks in the “Key to Wyn” tent for their charity of choice, including the Kevin Harvick Foundation. Patrons may vote only once per day. The Charity receiving the most votes when voting closes at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21 will receive the $100,000 donation from Wishes By Wyndham. The check presentation will happen immediately after the winner of the Wyndham Championship receives the Sam Snead Cup on the 18th green following the tournament. Four NASCAR Drivers Play Kevin Harvick Foundation Event

GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of North Carolina Men’s Basketball Coach Roy Williams will play in Monday’s Kevin Harvick Foundation Pro-Am presented by Technology Concepts & Design, it was announced today.  The 71st annual Wyndham Championship begins Monday at Sedgefield Country Club.

Williams is a two-time NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship coach having won the title in 2005 and ’09. The Asheville, N.C. native has played in Wyndham Championship-related pro-Ams on multiple occasions, and he is always a crowd favorite.

Williams joins a Kevin Harvick Foundation Pro-Am field that includes four NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers.  Harvick, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points leader, Elliott Sadler, Scott Speed and Hermie Sadler will all play in Monday’s Kevin Harvick Foundation pro-am.  The drivers will all arrive at the Sedgefield Country Club practice range at 10:30 a.m.

Williams and the four NASCAR drivers will each be paired with a PGA TOUR golfer and three amateur players.  Monday tee times are not yet confirmed, but Williams and the four NASCAR drivers will tee off around 11 a.m.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – High Point’s Drew Weaver will host this year’s Wyndham Championship / First Tee of the Triad Youth Golf Clinic presented by BB&T on Tuesday, Aug. 17, it was announced today.  The 71st annual Wyndham Championship begins Monday at Sedgefield Country Club.

Weaver will work with First Tee of the Triad staff to teach kids some of the finer points of golf at the Gillespie Park Golf Course practice facility from 4 – 5:30 p.m.  This facility is also the Greensboro location of The First Tee of the Triad.  Refreshments will be available, and kids participating in the golf clinic will receive free Wyndham Championship hats. This event is open to the public, and admission is free.

Weaver, 23, is competing on the eGolf Tour, one of the top minor professional golf tours on the East Coast.  The Virginia Tech alumnus is playing the Wyndham Championship on a sponsor’s exemption; his only other Wyndham appearance came in 2008 when he missed the cut while playing as an amateur. He attempted PGA TOUR qualifying school last year but did not advance into the third stage.  Weaver won the 2007 British Amateur, and he played in the Masters and the British Open as the winner of the British Amateur.  He qualified for the U.S. Open last year and finished tied for 40th.

The First Tee, an initiative of the World Golf Foundation, has as its mission, “To impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character-development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.”  The goal of The First Tee is to provide the golf-learning facilities and the experience that will enable kids from every walk of life to partake of a game that teaches values for life and which can be played for a lifetime.
